Mark Selby records first ever World Championship final 147 maximum break 40 years after the first ever maximum at the Crucible... landing £15,000 for the tournament's highest break

Mark Selby made history in the World Championship as he became the first player to make a maximum 147 break in the final.

The 39-year-old recorded the feat 40 years since the first ever maximum at the Crucible, which was compiled in 1983 by Cliff Thorburn.

The Crucible in Sheffield has now seen 10 players make a maximum break in total, with Ronnie O'Sullivan and Stephen Hendry previously doing this three times each.

Selby's feat was not the first of the tournament, however, as Kyren Wilson made a 147 during his first-round win against Ryan Day, where he won 10-5.
