Manchester United are dealt an injury blow as talented youngster Kobbie Mainoo is ruled out for 'the first part of the season' with an ankle injury sustained in their friendly defeat by Real Madrid

Kobbie Mainoo will miss the first part of the forthcoming season after the teenager's ankle injury during Manchester United's friendly defeat to Real Madrid.

The 18-year-old midfielder was injured during the friendly in Houston on Wednesday, and left the NRG Stadium in a protective boot.

Now the club have confirmed that Mainoo - who started four pre-season friendlies for Man United this summer - will have to sit out the start of the 2023/24 campaign following the setback.

The club's website revealed: 'Manchester United can confirm that Kobbie Mainoo suffered an ankle injury during the match against Real Madrid on Tour 2023.
