Benjamin Sesko has emerged as Manchester United’s No 1 striker target this summer.
United have been weighing up a move for the young RB Leipzig centre-forward or Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins, and will now channel their efforts into signing Sesko.
They will face competition from Newcastle, who want Sesko to replace Alexander Isak if he moves to Liverpool, and it is still possible that head coach Ruben Amorim could go into the new season without a new striker.
It’s understood that United approached Villa over a deal in the region of £45million for Watkins, but their Premier League rivals did not want to sell and it would have taken a significantly higher offer to alter that stance.
