At the weekend, Angel Gomes became the youngest player to debut for Manchester United since the great Duncan Edwards back in 1953.
Aged just 16 years and 185 days (78 days older than Edwards), Gomes emerged from the bench to replace Wayne Rooney for the latter stages of United's 2-0 win over Crystal Palace at Old Trafford in what felt like a symbolic passing of the mantle.
After the match, the prodigious forward was in reflective mood, sharing a photo on Instagram of the first time he met Rooney, almost exactly a decade ago.
The picture was taken at roughly the same point Gomes was snapped up by the United academy as a six-year-old in 2007.
