Jarrad Branthwaite may have come away from his first England camp feeling deflated but there has been no hangover since his return to Everton.
The central defender was outstanding in his side’s 1-0 win over Burnley, commanding and authoritative throughout. So good was his performance, Vincent Kompany even made a point of name-checking the 21-year-old and praise from him carries considerable weight.
Branthwaite will be the subject of interest from Manchester United this summer – he’s steadfastly blocking out noise about his future – but whether he goes to the European Championships is something that is not so certain.
