'I was embarrassed... I didn't want to be picked': Gary Neville reveals the hurt at knowing he was finished in final season at Manchester United before retiring after 'horror show' at West Brom in 2011

Gary Neville has admitted that he was 'embarrassed' to be picked during his final season at Manchester United.

The Red Devils legend revealed that he intended on retiring as a professional footballer a season earlier but 'conned' the club's hierarchy into giving him a new short-term deal.

Neville would go on to play four more games in his final season before leaving in January 2011, with the one-club right-back insisting that moving elsewhere was 'never an option'.
