Groenen and Netherlands knocked out of Euro 2022 by France

The defending champions were knocked out of the competition by France after extra time at Rotherham’s New York Stadium, as a result of Eve Perisset’s 102nd minute penalty.

Groenen played all 120 minutes of a gruelling tie that could only be settled by a spot-kick, which Dutch keeper Daphne van Domselaar did get her fingertips to but couldn’t stop from going in.

The result not only ended the reigning champion’s run in the tournament, but also meant Les Bleus reach the semi-finals for the first time in their history.

Reflecting on his side’s performance, Dutch boss Mark Parsons told BBC Sport: "I am unbelievably proud of the players and the staff, you saw the players give everything.
