Manchester United is being put up for sale by the Glazer family, potentially bringing the curtain down on their highly controversial 17-year reign at the club, according to reports.
The Athletic reported that they would be seeking bidders as they looked to sell the club. Banks have been instructed by the family to handle the sale, with a statement expected later on Tuesday.
Ranked recently by Forbes as the third most valuable football club on the planet - behind only Real Madrid and Barcelona - at £3.9bn, the Glazer family are set to make a significant profit on the £790m they spent on the club initially in 2005, a purchase that was funded largely by debt.
