Fred and Bruno join esteemed company

The midfield duo followed in the footsteps of Eric Cantona and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer when adding to their goals on the opening day of the season by netting against the Yorkshiremen again at Elland Road.

Before the new division started in 1992, such instances of United men scoring in both games was also rare with only three other men pulling it off since the Second World War.

David Herd managed it in the 1965/66 season, scoring both our goals in successive 1-1 draws with our rivals across the Pennines. Bobby Charlton was the previous Red to do it, in 1959/60, and this was the second time the Busby Babe achieved the feat after also netting home and away in the 1956/57 campaign.
