Former Man United star sacked by Championship team to end his eight-year stay at the club

A former Manchester United star has been sacked from his first manager's job.

Tom Cleverley, 35, who made 79 appearances for United between 2011 and 2014 and won the Premier League in Sir Alex Ferguson's last season, joined Watford as a player in 2017 and spent the final six years of his career at the club.

He then took up an academy coaching role before replacing Valerien Ismael as manager last March.

In his only full season in charge, he led the Hornets to a 14th-placed finish in the Championship, and that has not proved enough for him to keep his job.
