Manchester United are set to appoint Matt Johnson as their new head of women’s football when Polly Bancroft departs at the end of the season.

Johnson is currently director of operations at the Manchester United Foundation and was previously performance director for the girls’ talent club.

It was announced in February that Bancroft would leave her role, which she took up in October 2022, to join League Two side Grimsby Town at the end of the season.

Johnson is highly thought of at United and Mail Sport understands that one of the main reasons he has been given the role is because of his excellent communication skills.
