The FA performed a U-turn on their strategy for Marcus Rashford as Aidy Boothroyd expressed his disappointment that the Manchester United striker will not go to Euro 2017.
It had been the FA’s intention for nearly 12 months to take the Manchester United striker, one of the hottest young talents in Europe, to the Under-21 European Championships in order to give him crucial experience of being involved in a tournament.
Boothroyd, the Under 21 head coach, stated his intention in March to speak with Jose Mourinho and was determined to pick Rashford – whose hat-trick against Norway last September effectively secured England’s spot at Euro 2017 – in his 23-man party for Poland.
