Cristiano Ronaldo's life is one associated with glamour and glitz away from his success on the football pitch. But for his older brother, life has taken a very different path.

Hugo Aveiro, 42, has battled against drink and substance abuse and has Ronaldo to thank for paying for treatment to help overcome addiction.

'There's no doubt his money helped to save Hugo,' their mother Dolores was quoted as saying in the Daily Record in 2007. 'Things might have turned out a lot differently if Cristiano hadn't been a footballer.'
