Colin Webster awarded league winners' medal

Webster, who sadly passed away in 2001 at the age of 68, was one of 18 players who missed out on a medal due to qualifying criteria which has now been updated by the English Football League. Players with five or more appearances for league-winning teams are now entitled to recognition – and these new rules have been applied retrospectively to historic championships.

Welsh international, Webster, made 79 appearances for United and was also at the club at the time of the Munich Air Disaster, although did not travel with the team due to ill health. The 1956/57 First Division medal was presented to Colin’s brother-in-law and three nephews by fellow Welshman and former United winger Mickey Thomas.
