Christian Eriksen has been contacted by Brentford owner Matthew Benham to express the club’s regret after he was booed by sections of the home crowd during the Bees’ 4-0 win over Manchester United.

The Dane joined United in the summer when his short-term contract with Brentford expired, following a hugely successful return to English football.

Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest at Euro 2020 last year, and was given scant hope of a return to competitive football.

Yet when he joined Brentford, they gathered 22 points from the 10 matches he started, pulling well clear of relegation trouble.
