Manchester United were inspired rather than intimidated by the hostile atmosphere in St Etienne according to Chris Smalling.
The central defender helped his side to a 1-0 victory and progression to the last 16 of the Europa League.
Smalling insisted that the unrelenting home support made sure United treated the game seriously and did not switch off.

He told BT Sport: 'I think their crowd probably helped us because we made sure we didn't go through the motions, it was a proper game and I think we did a good job from start to finish.
