Cavani claims United's May Goal of the Month award

The Uruguayan wowed the 10,000 lucky Reds in attendance at Old Trafford 15 minutes into the clash with the Cottagers, ghosting in behind the visitors’ backline and lofting the ball over goalkeeper and former PSG team-mate Alphonse Areola, into the back of the net.

At 35.2 metres out, it was the longest-range goal scored in the Premier League this season and a truly fitting way to mark the return of fans to the Theatre of Dreams, after 14 months away.

While the club’s official Goal of the Season award had been decided only hours earlier, with Bruno Fernandes’s equally-as-impressive effort against Everton taking that honour, Cavani’s magic moment has gone on to receive wider recognition.
