'Bruno was brilliant today. He led the team from the first minute': Erik ten Hag hails Fernandes' man of the match display in 4-1 win over Real Betis as he bounces back from Anfield shame

Bruno Fernandes roared back at his critics at Old Trafford on Thursday night as he helped put Manchester United within sight of the Europa League quarter-finals.

Fernandes scored a goal and made an assist in a 4-1 win over Real Betis, but manager Erik ten Hag warned his under-fire captain that he has to control his emotions after he was lucky to avoid a red card.

Fernandes, who was heavily criticised for his petulant behaviour in Sunday's 7-0 collapse at Liverpool, was booked for a late challenge on goalkeeper Claudio Bravo which could have led to a more severe punishment from German referee Daniel Siebert.
