Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini suggests Amad Diallo is close to joining Manchester United but admits 'difficulties' over the teenage winger's £37m move 'after Old Trafford chiefs 'blocked their bid to keep him on loan'

Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini has admitted there were 'difficulties' over Amad Diallo's move to Manchester United, but appeared to confirm the teenager was set to join Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side imminently.

United snapped up the 18-year-old in a £37million deal in October but sent him back to the Serie A club on loan after failing to secure a work permit.

Reports from Italy this week claimed Atalanta had been turned down in their bid to extend the loan until the end of the season, with the player said to be close to receiving the paperwork he needs to move to England.
