Two people have been arrested after a man was killed when he was 'hit by a black Land Rover' while 'trying to stop his car from being stolen, say police.

The 57-year-old was killed after he was hit by a vehicle at the junction of Holly Street and Olympic Street in Manchester, near Manchester City's Etihad stadium.

Police and emergency services were called to the area at 10.54am on Saturday to find the victim unresponsive. Despite their best efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

On Sunday afternoon a 35-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder, and a 43-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.
