Timo Werner 'rejected Manchester City move after Frank Lampard convinced £53m RB Leipzig star he could play important role for Chelsea'

RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner rejected a move to Manchester City before he agreed to join Premier League rivals Chelsea.

The 24-year-old decided to agree a move to Stamford Bridge after Frank Lampard convinced him he would play an important role at Chelsea. The transfer is reported to cost the Blues around £53million as they beat City, Liverpool and Inter Milan for the German.

Jurgen Klopp's side were favourites to sign Werner before Chelsea swooped in, but Manchester City also tasted rejection from the striker as he sets up for a move to London, according to Sport Bild.
