Manchester City have withdrawn from the European Super League after widespread backlash and have since been followed by Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur. The Premier League leaders issued a brief club statement on their official website explaining that they’ve begun the process to pull out of the competition.
City were the last club to join the proposed midweek league and the first club to exit, so supporters have welcomed the speedy U-turn. Benjamin Mendy, Raheem Sterling, Aymeric Laporte and Kevin De Bruyne are among the City players to tweet about the decision made, mocking how quickly it all collapsed and hailing the Champions League in the process.
