PGMOL introduce drones into the training of match officials to help improve refereeing standards ahead of new Premier League season

Refereeing body PGMOL have introduced drones into their training of match officials ahead of the new Premier League season.

The innovative sessions at their camps involve referees and assistant referees overseeing practice matches before then analysing their movements from a bird’s eye view captured by DJI Mavic 3 Enterprise and DJI M30 drones.

With Adam Carter, head of performance analysis at the PGMOL, it allows referees to work on refining their positioning during key moments of matches. Assistants can also look at how to improve their line of sight for incidents such as offsides.

Referee Craig Pawson will oversee the Premier League opener between Burnley and Manchester City at Turf Moor, assisted by Simon Bennett and Steve Meredith.
