Pep Guardiola plotting Manchester derby power shift over United

There was a time when Manchester City were scared of Manchester United.

It lasted an age, from City's 5-1 win at Maine Road in 1989 right up to their 1-0 success in the FA Cup semifinal of 2011. Despite the odd victory here and there in that 22-year period, City fans largely dreaded derby day and would spend the entire week before coming up with their excuses just in case their side let them down again.

The 1990s rolled by and City didn't win a single Manchester derby in 14 attempts. In fact, United would regularly humiliate their opposition and leave their rivals embarrassed -- a 3-2 comeback victory from 2-0 down at Maine Road in November 1993 and a 5-0 hammering at Old Trafford a year later are probably the matches that still hurt the most for City supporters.
