Lee Carsley is being backed as 'the long-term SUCCESSOR for the Football Association of Ireland' if Stephen Kenny doesn't stay beyond Euro 2024… and is 'not a potential replacement to Gareth Southgate' despite his success with the England U21s

Lee Carsley is reportedly being backed as the 'long-term successor' to take over from Stephen Kenny as the next Republic of Ireland manager.

According to the Telegraph, the England U21 manager is currently 'not in the running to take over from Gareth Southgate', should the Three Lions manager resign from his position.

Carsley, who has previously worked as an assistant manager at Manchester City and a caretaker manager at Birmingham City, has risen through the ranks at St George's park, previously managing the U20s side before becoming the U21s coach in 2021.
