Jack Byrne joins Wigan from Man City on three-and-a-half-year deal

Manchester City midfielder Jack Byrne has joined Championship side Wigan Athletic for an undisclosed fee.

The Republic of Ireland Under 21 international has signed a three-and-a-half year contract, subject to English Football League and Football Association clearance.

The 20-year-old spent the first half of the season on loan at fellow Championship side Blackburn Rovers, but he was recalled after making just seven appearances for the club.

Byrne also had a successful loan spell at Dutch Eredivisie side Cambuur last season, scoring four goals in 27 appearances.

Wigan manager Warren Joyce said: "Jack is one for the long-term.
