Harry Redkapp predicted Frank Lampard would go 'right to the very top' when he was 18... and after 300 goals for club and country and a cabinet full of trophies he was right

It was during a tense West Ham United fans' forum 21 years ago that the club's then manager Harry Redknapp predicted a young Frank Lampard would go 'right to the very top'.

Redknapp, Lampard's uncle, had been accused of favouring his 18-year-old nephew who had come through the youth ranks in east London with his father Frank Snr also at the club as assistant manager.

One particular fan questioned why Redknapp had let 'good midfielders like Matt Holland and Scott Canham go for peanuts' before claiming Lampard wasn't 'quite good enough'

Fast forward to today and Redknapp's impassioned defence looks inspired following Lampard's decision to call time on a glittering career which saw him grow from the plump face West Ham youngster to one of the greatest midfielders the Premier League has seen following an £11million move to Chelsea in 2001.
