LSU's nose guard pairing faces challenge from Mississippi State

BATON ROUGE, La. -- Greg Gilmore had started just one game at LSU before this season, but he already views himself as a leader along the Tigers’ defensive front.

That comes in part from age and necessity -- longtime starter Christian LaCouture suffered a season-ending knee injury in preseason camp, opening the door for fourth-year junior Gilmore to take his place -- and partially because he has the right personality for the job.

“He’s been here the longest. He’s seen it all, and Greg just took over,” sophomore outside linebacker Arden Key said.
