LSU set for first back-to-back games in same bowl since Paul Dietzel’s tenure

The same bowl in back-to-back years for LSU? If it feels like that hasn’t happened for a really long time, there’s a good reason why.

When LSU plays in its second consecutive Citrus Bowl on January 1, it will be the first time the Tigers have played in the same bowl in back-to-back seasons since reaching the Sugar Bowl after both the 1958 and 1959 seasons.

Sort of.

The Tigers also played in New Orleans after the 2006 and 2007 seasons, but only the former game was officially the Sugar Bowl. The latter meeting was actually the BCS Championship Game against Ohio State, when LSU beat the Buckeyes 38-24 to wrap up a memorable national title under Les Miles.
