Aaron Nola was having the single best outing of his professional career Saturday night. That was until I tweeted about it and it all went up in smoke.
Nola, facing the San Diego Padres, had a perfect game through six innings and a no-hitter through six-and-a-third. He even struck out his older brother Austin!
The Nola brothers faced each other for the first time in their careers and had several family members in the stands, so naturally Aaron threw the two hardest pitches of his 2021 season against Austin.
Aaron was doing so well that Phillies’ manager Joe Giradi elected not to pinch hit for him in the eighth inning and Nola responded by hitting a leadoff double that led to Philadelphia grabbing a 3-1 lead.
