Former LSU coach Dale Brown knows Johnny Jones perhaps more than anyone associated with the Tigers.
Brown coached Jones from 1980-84 and Jones served as an assistant coach under Brown from 1984-97.
Brown released a statement on Friday morning about the firing:
"I am deeply saddened that Johnny Jones, a truly fine man, has been released as the head basketball coach at LSU," Brown wrote. "One will never find the true fiber of a man in times of prosperity or success, but only in his resiliency and attitude during times of failure and adversity.
