Game-By-Game Prediction Of LSU's Record In 2017

The LSU Tigers are entering the first full season of the Ed Orgeron schedule and expectations remain high. Derrius Guice is a Heisman candidate taking over in the backfield for Leonard Fournette, and the defense is full of stars, led by Arden Key. Will they be able to reach their goal in competing for a SEC title and College Football Playoff berth? Here's a game-by-game prediction of LSU's schedule this year:

Week 1: vs. BYU Cougars (in Houston, TX)
Prediction: WIN (1-0)

Opening the season at NRG Stadium will give LSU immediate experience playing in a playoff-like atmosphere. BYU is also the perfect opponent for an opener like this - they're provide the Tigers with a stiff test but aren't talented enough to beat them.

Week 2: vs. Chattanooga Mocs
Prediction: WIN (2-0)

Here's the cupcake game for LSU as they try to iron out all the early season kinks before starting conference play.

Week 3: at Mississippi State Bulldogs
Prediction: WIN (3-0)

This will be a tougher than expected road test for the Tigers. Mississippi State is a talented team with a proven quarterback in Nick Fitzgerald. However, they're a one-dimensional offense and LSU defends the run as well as anyone. It will be a shock if the Bulldogs pull off the upset.

Week 4: vs. Syracuse Orange
Prediction: WIN (4-0)

Another non-conference game against a Power 5 Conference team, Syracuse's high-octane offense will test LSU's secondary. They're just not good enough defensively to stop LSU at any point.

Week 5: vs. Troy Trojans
Prediction: WIN (5-0)

Troy is a quality Group of 5 program. That said, they have no chance in Death Valley.

Week 6: at Florida Gators
Prediction: LOSS (5-1)

Could LSU win this game? Absolutely. However, playing in The Swamp against will be the biggest test of Danny Etling's improvement - and I haven't seen enough from him to trust him in a tough road game like this.

Week 7: vs. Auburn Tigers
Prediction: WIN (6-1)

Auburn will be much improved this year with Jarrett Stidham under center, but this game will likely be a night game - and we all know that LSU doesn't lost night games in Death Valley.

Week 8: at Ole Miss Rebels
Prediction: WIN (7-1)

Ole Miss was a mess last year and they're not going to get any better after the Hugh Freeze fiasco. They're on the verge of getting crushed by the NCAA, and that will affect them on the field.

Week 9: BYE

Week 10: at Alabama Crimson Tide
Prediction: LOSS (7-2)

LSU is getting closer and closer to ending the streak and beating Alabama. However, that won't happen on the road and won't happen until they get reliable quarterback play. I predict another close loss for the Tigers.

Week 11: vs. Arkansas Razorbacks
Prediction: WIN (8-2)

Arkansas loves to line up and play power football - and LSU does it better.

Week 12: at Tennessee Volunteers
Prediction: WIN (9-2)

Many around the Tennessee program aren't expecting big things from the Vols this year. With Butch Jones on the hot seat, Tennessee could be falling to uncertainty at this point in the year. Plus, as is the case with virtually every team LSU players, the Tigers have a talent advantage.

Week 13: vs. Texas A&M Aggies
Prediction: WIN (10-2)

The Aggies are 6-9 over the last three years combined after playing Alabama, showing just how badly they tend to fade down the stretch. Should that continue this year - and we have no reason to think otherwise - LSU will win easily.
