Townes Suffered Injury During NIT, Pulls Out of 3-on-3 Tournament

After being selected to play in a 3-on-3 tournament at this year’s NCAA Tournament Final Four, former Loyola guard Marques Townes announced he was backing out due to an injury he suffered during the National Invitation Tournament (NIT).

Townes told The Phoenix he suffered a non-displaced fracture in his left thumb before halftime of the Ramblers’ 60-51 loss to Creighton University in the first round of the NIT March 19, but didn’t find out until the next day. The MVC Player of the Year scored just four points on 1-for-8 shooting in the defeat.

Due to a minor injury I will not participate in the 3×3 tournament at the Final Four in Minneapolis.
