The search for a new head coach for Loyola’s women’s basketball is over. Loyola will hire former Xavier University and St. Bonaventure University assistant coach Kate Achter, according to Jesse Fleming, Achter’s former head coach at St. Bonaventure.
Loyola’s Athletic Department has not yet made the move official, but the hiring marks the end of a tumultuous few months for the program and the university.
Achter will replace former head coach Sheryl Swoopes, who parted ways with Loyola two weeks ago after a nearly three-month-long investigation of Swoopes’ program. The investigation, launched on April 15, looked into allegations of player mistreatment against the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame inductee.
