In the Atlantic 10 (A-10) Championship Quarterfinals, the Loyola men’s soccer team faced George Washington University (GWU) Nov. 5 at Loyola Soccer Park, beating the Colonials 1-0. The Ramblers advanced to the semifinals thanks to senior midfielder Oscar Dueso’s clutch first half goal.

Early in the first half, both teams struggled to produce a scoring chance as 10 minutes went by without a shot. In the third minute, Loyola earned a free kick after GWU’s Tom Cooklin fouled John Gates, but defensive midfielder Julian Cisneros committed a handball violation to end the Ramblers’ chance.

After the Colonials committed two fouls in the first 10 minutes, Jared DeMott was given a yellow card for unsporting behavior after pushing graduate forward Fabian Becerra to the ground.
