Loyola Cancels Spring Sports Due to Coronavirus Concerns

After the NCAA announced all winter and spring athletics championships — including March Madness — are canceled, Loyola Athletics followed suit by canceling all spring seasons Thursday night.

All spring athletics events — including games and practices — are canceled for the rest of the 2019-20 academic year due to concerns surrounding COVID-19, the respiratory disease caused by Coronavirus, Loyola Athletics spokesperson Bill Behrns told The Phoenix. The announcement means the Loyola men’s volleyball, softball, golf and track and field teams’ seasons are over.

It’s unclear whether or not the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) will cancel spring sports seasons, as well.
