This is only the second time the Lions have made it to the Sweet 16 — the first, in 1996, saw LMU lose to Washington State University in the regional semifinal. On Dec. 3, the Lions started their run with the program’s first win in an NCAA Tournament game since 2003, defeating Colorado State University 3-1. In the second round, the Lions managed to upset the No. 6 Stanford University Cardinals with a 3-0 sweep. Stanford is the highest-ranked opponent to ever fall to the Lions. BYU joins LMU as the pair of West Coast Conference teams in the Sweet 16.
