On the same day the Louisville basketball team will relinquish its hold on the nation’s No. 1 ranking, the Cardinal baseball team is wrapping its arms around the top spot for its sport.
U of L is No. 1 in the Collegiate Baseball preseason poll, which was released Monday morning. The ranking marks the first time the Cards will start a season at No. 1, and just the third time in program history Louisville has sat atop a top 25 poll (Dan McDonnell’s team was also No. 1 for two weeks in March of 2017).
Louisville is coming off a season in which it went 51-18 and reached the bracket final of the College World Series, its deepest run yet at the event.
