Jeff Walz is Card Chronicle’s 2020 Person of the Year

By virtue of capturing 54 percent of this year’s vote, Jeff Walz has been named Card Chronicle’s 2020 Person of the Year.

This was the fifth time the highly successful U of L women’s basketball coach had been a finalist for the honor, but the first time he’s taken home the top prize. I can only imagine this is the crowning moment of his career.

Here’s the updated list of honorees for Louisville’s most sought-after title:

2007 - Tom Jurich
2008 - David Padgett
2009 - Vacant (we forgot to do it)
2010 - Charlie Strong
2011 - Charlie Strong and Preston Knowles (tie)
2012 - Tom Jurich
2013 - Teddy Bridgewater
2014 - Russ Smith
2015 - Kelsi Worrell
2016 - Lamar Jackson
2017 - Brendan McKay
2018 - Vince Tyra
2019 - Scott Satterfield
2020 - Jeff Walz

With a 2020-21 team that appears fully capable of bringing home the program’s first national championship, there’s certainly a chance that Walz could successfully defend his title in 2021.
