When two teams without a conference win meet, something has to give. In the case of ULM and Southern Miss, ULM’s offense gave in early and failed to recover.

Three first-quarter turnovers by ULM (2-7; 0-6 Sun Belt Conference) in Hattiesburg, Mississippi allowed Southern Miss (2-7; 1-5) to put up 17 straight points, effectively icing the competition. Two of the turnovers resulted in one-play touchdowns for the Golden Eagles.

The early-and-often scoring in the first quarter marked the only first-half points for either team. A second-half touchdown by each school knotted the final score at 24-7, leading to the seventh consecutive loss for the Warhawks on the season.
