SAN MARCOS, Texas – Freshman right-hander Adrianna Chavarria recorded her first career shutout, tossing a two-hitter as No. 8-seed ULM defeated No. 5-seed Appalachian State, 2-0, Wednesday (May 8) afternoon in an opening-round game of the 2019 Sun Belt Conference Softball Championship. Chavarria outdueled App State right-hander Kenzie Longanecker, who earned All-Sun Belt First-Team honors.
After sitting through a weather delay that lasted nearly 3 1/2 hours, Chavarria battled through some early adversity. She pitched around two walks in the bottom of the first – her only free passes in the game – and a leadoff single in the bottom of the second.
