LAFAYETTE — Shooting guard Hayward Register’s days with Louisiana-Lafayette’s basketball team are over, coach Bob Marlin confirmed in a statement Thursday afternoon.
“Hayward has asked for and has been granted his release (to transfer) for next season,” Marlin said. “We wish him well in his future endeavors.”
Register tweeted from his non-verified account Thursday afternoon, “It was great being at UL … but sometimes things are crazy … everything happens for a reason.”
With this news, the Cajuns only have three players returning who averaged more than eight minutes per game this season.
Register opened the 2015-16 season with high expectations as a sharp-shooting starter, but he never found his shooting touch and his minutes were drastically slashed.
