UL-Lafayette had its biggest offensive explosion of the season and ran away with a 17-3 win over the University of New Orleans in a nonconference game at Maestri Field on Tuesday night.
It was the final midweek game of the season for both teams, and the Cajuns’ second win over the Privateers this season.
It was UL-Lafayette’s first time scoring 17 runs in a game since March 2014.
Both teams were tied at 1 after the first two innings, but the Cajuns (34-19) exploded for a six-run third to take control.
After getting its first two runs of the third on an RBI groundout and flyout, UL-Lafayette got the rest of its runs during the inning on two-out hits, starting with an RBI single by Nick Thurman to left field that made the score 4-1.
