LAFAYETTE — Jay Johnson, who has spent the past five seasons as the Louisiana-Lafayette football team’s offensive coordinator, is going home.
Johnson, a Minnesota native, has accepted a position as the University of Minnesota’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, UL-Lafayette confirmed Monday night.
Johnson was a member of head coach Mark Hudspeth’s original staff hired before the 2011 season. Under his direction, the Cajuns were consistently one of the Sun Belt Conference’s top scoring offenses, peaking at a school-record 35.5 points in 2012.
The Cajuns averaged better than 29.5 points per game every year under Johnson before this season, when injuries along the offensive line and ineffectiveness at quarterback crippled the Cajuns’ attack.
