Putting the past behind them: After NCAA sanctions are revealed, Cajuns football coaches are confident their recruiting efforts won’t be affected

LAFAYETTE — Relief washed over Louisiana-Lafayette recruiting coordinator and tight ends coach Reed Stringer on Tuesday when the NCAA Division I Committee on Infractions handed down its ruling on misconduct allegedly committed by former Ragin’ Cajuns assistant coach David Saunders.

While the ruling tacked on some penalties in addition to those self-imposed by the university, they had virtually no impact on the upcoming Feb. 3 national signing day. And, most importantly, it brought a two-year investigation to a close, bringing some finality and concrete facts to move forward with.

“The uncertainty is over,” Stringer said.
