LAFAYETTE — Texas softball coach Connie Clark tried to explain that the idea wasn’t necessarily for her team to hit five solo home runs.
But she gladly accepted the major ingredient in her team’s recipe for advancing in the NCAA softball tournament’s Lafayette regional.
No. 3 seed Texas matched its season high with five solo home runs, including two by center fielder Lindsey Stephens, and Tiarra Davis threw a five-hit shutout in a 5-0 victory Friday over No. 2 seed Texas A&M at Lamson Park.
“We’re not trying to hit the ball out of the park,” Clark said.
