Golf: Cruz Valle Opens Latin America Amateur Championship With Strong Showing

CASA DE CAMPO, Dominican Republic – Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns junior golfer Fernando Cruz Valle carded an opening round score of even par (72) on Thursday to finish in a tie for 13th at the Latin America Amateur Championship hosted at the Teeth of the Dog Golf Course.

Cruz Valle, representing his native country of Mexico, had only two blemishes in the first round while tallying three birdies. The junior sits four strokes back of Alvaro Ortiz, Mexico, and Jose Andres Miranda, Ecuador, for the tournament lead.

The field will be cut to the leading 50 players plus ties after 36 holes.
