LAFAYETTE – No. 22 Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Softball followed the lead of pitchers Kylee Jo Trahan and Summer Ellyson to a sweep of Friday's action in the Mardi Gras Classic in front of 1,815 fans at Lamson Park.
Trahan struck out nine and held Eastern Illinois to three hits as Louisiana (3-0) opened the day with a 2-1 triumph. The senior hurler retired 12 of the final 14 batters she faced after the Panthers scratched their lone run.
In the nightcap, Ellyson established a new school record for strikeouts in a seven inning game by landing 20 strikeouts in a 7-1 win over Evansville.
