Cajuns women open defense of their WBI title Wednesday against Northwestern State

LAFAYETTE — Even after the destination became clear for the Louisiana-Lafayette women’s basketball team, the details were still a bit cloudy.

The Ragin’ Cajuns (21-10) took up the Women’s Basketball Invitational on a chance to defend the title they won last season by defeating Siena. When coach Garry Brodhead discussed the scenario with the team Monday, there were still some blanks that needed to be filled in: The Cajuns knew they had a spot in the tournament with a chance to host an opponent, but that foe had yet to be determined.

“Our kids just want to play basketball and they don’t think too much about all the hoopla and all that,” Brodhead said.
