STATESBORO, Ga. — The Louisiana-Lafayette softball team claimed the Sun Belt Conference championship and the league tournament’s No. 1 seed with a doubleheader sweep of Georgia Southern on Saturday.
The No. 8-ranked Ragin’ Cajuns (37-6, 18-1 Sun Belt) captured the championship outright in a 12-1 win in the second game after taking the tournament’s top seed with a 5-0 win the day’s first game.
The Cajuns won the Sun Belt Conference regular season championship for the third straight season and for the 14th time in the 16 seasons the league has held regular-season competition.
LOUISIANA-LAFAYETTE 5, GEORGIA SOUTHERN 0: The Cajuns broke a scoreless tie with a five-run third, highlighted by a two-run double from DJ Sanders and two-run single by Kara Gremillion.
